Waist-to-Height Ratio Calculator

Your waist-to-height ratio compares your waist circumference with your height. Keep your waist to less than half your height (a ratio under 0.5). A ratio of 0.5–0.59 means increased health risk, and 0.6 or more means high risk. It predicts diabetes and heart risk better than BMI alone.

Waist-to-height ratio check

NICE (2022): keep your waist to less than half your height. 0.5–0.59 means increased risk; 0.6 or more means high risk.

How to measure your waist

Stand up straight, breathe out normally, and measure around your belly at the level of your belly button, without pulling the tape tight.

Why belly fat matters

Fat around the organs (visceral fat) drives insulin resistance, fatty liver, high triglycerides and blood pressure. This is common in South Asians even at a "normal" BMI.
